By Members of Squadron Officer School's Class 14D honored Air Force Capt. David I. Lyon with a 5K run June 27.

Lyon would have been a member of the class, but was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, Dec. 27, 2013.

According to class member Capt. Michael Kravitz, "One of our classmates was approached by Captain Lyon's wife. We found out that a similar run was being conducted at Peterson Air Force Base [Colo.] six months after Captain Lyon was killed. Our class also wanted to honor Captain Lyon, and we believe a run in his name, with classmates he would have been with, is the way to go."

Lyon's wife, Dana, is also an Air Force captain. She graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2007. He graduated from the Academy in 2008.

"We're very honored and humbled to take this opportunity to remember one of our fallen Airmen who gave his life for values we so much cherish in the United States," concluded Kravitz.
