Blankenship 42nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. - -- With flag football playoff seating on the line, 42nd CONS put on a clinic Nov. 13 against HQAU. Two interceptions by safety Austin Parker and quarterback Patrick Cady's four touchdown passes propelled the now 4-2 CONS squad over the winless HQAU 27-0. "We just wanted to come out and be efficient in what we did," said Cady. "These guys almost jumped up and knocked off the unbeaten LeMay team last game. Their record is not an indication of their capability." Commanding his troops, Cady marched the opening drive right through the heart of the HQAU defense, setting the tone with a 17-yard touchdown scramble. Following a punt from the opposition, Cady continued his efficient passing clinic, tossing darts down the gridiron and finding Parker on a corner route to the back pylon. "We talked about the height advantage after the first drive and decided if we got that matchup again we were going to take advantage of that," said the quarterback. Continuing to struggle to move the ball in the first half, HQAU failed on a fourth down conversion, giving the ball back to Cady with under a minute remaining before halftime. The first sign of life for HQAU came with a defensive stand inside their 20-yard line to stifle the CONS as the horn sounded. "Finally getting a stop was big for us," said Alexander Stojadinovic, HQAU quarterback. "At that point we were still in the game, and that stop gave us some confidence moving into the second half." Unfortunately for Stojadinovic, their comeback just never happened. "We started moving the ball a little better as the game progressed," he said. "We just couldn't punch it in for points. They are a good team, but all season long we have been one conversion short here or one dropped pass there that leaves us on the losing end." Cady hit on 14 of 19 pass attempts for 74 percent completion on the night and touchdowns to Parker (2) and Tech Sgt. Nicholas Northam. "I am proud of the way we played defense today," said Cady. "That team (HQAU) can play. I don't care what their record says or the scoreboard tonight. They have a real chance to surprise somebody in the playoffs." Playoffs started Thursday, and the championship game is Nov. 21. "We may have lost tonight, but we will not hang our heads," said HQAU quarterback Stojadinovic. "My team will stand together as we have all year and go out there and try to make some noise in the playoffs."
