Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Carlton shared history with Gen. LeMay
Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Paul. K. Carlton Jr. poses in front of a portrait of family friend Gen. Curtis LeMay, April 21, 2016, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. The former Surgeon General of the Air Force visited Maxwell to share his thoughts with the Air War College Medical Elective students regarding Air Force history and culture. He spoke about what to do when an order is given that doesn’t meet with the Air Force’s moral standards and how to respond. He also gave insight on his friendship with LeMay. Carlton’s father, General Paul K. Carlton Sr. was LeMay’s aid from 1949-1953 and the two families became good friends. Carlton reminisced about fond memories he had with LeMay, such as when he wrote his recommendation letter for the Air Force Academy and gave his children shooting lessons in 1982. Carlton said that he hopes that if anyone remembers anything about LeMay it’s that he was a dedicated warrior. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Alexa Culbert)
