The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes event is scheduled for July 26, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., held at the Teague Arena – Garrett Coliseum Complex, Montgomery, Alabama.

The Hiring Our Heroes event is a free job fair and workshop geared toward helping veterans, transitioning service members and dependents find employment.

“The event provides veteran job seekers an opportunity to have a face to face conversation with employers about job opportunities and how their military skill sets are the best fit for the vacancy being discussed,” said Ernie Lombardi, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Associate.

Before the interviews begin, job seekers are encouraged to participate in a free workshop at 8:30 a.m. which focuses on resume writing, tips for navigating through job fairs and military skill transitions.

Lombardi believes that veterans bring a high level of competence, skill, motivation, character, integrity and work ethic to any position they hold and Hiring Our Heroes gives them a look at what to expect in the civilian realm when their contract is through.

“Many times, the veteran job seeker does not know what is available nor do they often know what direction to head in when leaving the military,” said Lombardi.

26,000 veterans since March 2011 have been hired directly from the Hiring Our Heroes events and 35 different companies are currently scheduled to attend the event here this year.
