The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts hosted their 21st annual military appreciation night, September 25, 2016. Military families from around the river region were in attendance to enjoy the exhibits, a catered dinner, and live music the museum provided as a way to thank the military members and families for their service and sacrifice.

"We value the contributions made by the Maxwell and Gunter communities. This family-oriented activity allows us the opportunity to express our gratitude for the commitment and sacrifices made by our military neighbors and friends," said Mark Johnson, Director of the museum.

In all, 903 people were in attendance that evening, making it one of the most well-attended military nights in recent history.

"Seeing the exhibits at the museum really reminded me of how serving this nation preserves the freedoms of expression that allow these artists to pursue their passions," said Col. Eric Shafa, 42nd Air Base Wing Commander, "The entire museum staff was very welcoming to the military members and families, as is the entire River Region, and I'd just like to let them know how much their support is appreciated."
