Base personnel celebrated Wingman Day at Maxwell Air Force Base, Oct. 6, 2016.

Crusaders spent the day focusing on the Wingman concept and being resilient Airmen.

This year’s Wingman Day activities were designed to help emphasize the importance of safety, camaraderie and the four pillars of Comprehensive Airman Fitness.

“Being a wingman is one of the most important aspects of being an Airman,” said Col. Barry Dickey,  42nd Air Base Wing vice commander. “Spending the day focusing on resiliency and being there for each other is one of the most important days of the year for us. Every Airman needs to know that he or she has Wingmen here for them and we support each other. Together, we can all be resilient in any difficulties we may face.”

During the day, Airmen discussed the mental and spiritual domains of resiliency before conquering the physical with a triple ribbon walk, designed to raise awareness for breast cancer, drug abuse and domestic violence. Following the walk provided other activities such as a fire muster, ultimate Frisbee games and other team building events.

“Having all our Airman come together and working as a team gave us great examples of how we can be Wingmen to each other,” said Chief Master Sgt. Laura Callaway, 42nd Air Base Wing command chief. “We spend most days focus on continuing to excel at our mission here. This was a great day to remember our people and ensure that our spiritual, social, physical and mental needs are met.”

Wingman Days are held twice a year, specifically to focus on being a good Wingman and taking care of your fellow Airmen, usually in the summer and fall.
