The 363d Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing recently earned the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award to recognize the organization for outstanding achievement in direct support of combat operations during June 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024.

The MUA is given to Air Force active duty, Reserve, and Guard units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding achievement or service in direct support of combat operations for at least 90 continuous days during the period of military operations against an armed enemy of the United States on or after Sept. 11, 2001.

The unit must display such outstanding devotion and superior performance of exceptionally difficult tasks as to set it apart and above other units with similar missions. The degree of achievement required is the same as that which would warrant award of the Legion of Merit. Superior performance of normal mission will not alone justify award of the MUA. Service in a combat zone is not required, but service must be directly related to the combat effort. Squadrons, groups, and wings may be recommended for this award.

Seven other wings in Sixteenth Air Force (Air Forces Cyber) were also announced as Air Combat Command recipients of the 2024 Meritorious Unit Award:

  • 9th Reconnaissance Wing, Beale Air Force Base California, 1 June 2022 - 31 May 2024
  • 55th Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, 1 June 2023 – 31 May 2024
  • 67th Cyberspace Wing, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, 1 June 2023 - 31 May 2024
  • 70th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, 1 June 2022 - 31 May 2024
  • 319th Reconnaissance Wing, Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota, 1 June 2023 - 31 May 2024

  • 688th Cyberspace Wing, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, 1 June 2023 - 31 May 2024

"Our wing is about to hit its 10-year anniversary and earning back-to-back MUAs shows we’ve really hit our stride as an invaluable part of the USAF and Joint teams," said U.S. Air Force Colonel John Thorne, 363d ISR Wing commander. "The Award really highlights that our deployed and in-place Airmen across the globe are performing critical work to keep America safe every day."
