Readout of COMUSAFE’s Travel to Italy Published Feb. 12, 2025 By USAFE-AFAFRICA Public Affairs Ramstein Air Base, Germany -- U.S. Air Force Gen. James B. Hecker, Commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa and NATO Allied Air Command travelled to Amendola Air Base, Italy, for an F-35 Air Chiefs meeting Feb. 10-11. The meeting brought together Air Chiefs from around Europe and beyond to align perspectives on shared concerns, chart a course for future endeavors, and explore the potential of fifth-generation fighters in deterring threats. The leaders discussed information-sharing, cross-servicing agreements and methods to enhance integration with 4th generation fighters. Over the past year the F-35 has achieved several significant milestones in Europe, enhancing defense capabilities and strengthening partnerships with U.S. Allies and partners. The presence of the F-35 in Europe continues to reinforce the NATO Alliance’s commitment to leveraging top-tier military capabilities for regional security and deterrence.
