River Region mayors honor military
Five mayors from the River Region paid a special visit to Maxwell to present a joint proclamation designating Nov. 8-14 as Military Appreciation Week. Receiving the proclamation were commanders from the surrounding area that included Air University, 42nd Air Base Wing, the Air Force Reserve and the Alabama National Guard. “To better inform the River Region citizens about the importance of our military neighbors,” the proclamation also authorized businesses to display banners “recognizing the impact our military and their families have on our communities as we recognize their sacrifice, support and dedication.” Shown from left are Tallessee Mayor George McCain, Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Air University Commander Lt. Gen. Allen G. Peck, Alabama National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. A.C. Blalock, Prattville Mayor Jim Byard Jr., and Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone. Not pictured, but also signing the proclamation, is Wetumpka Mayor Jerry Willis. (U.S. Air Force photo/Melanie Rodgers Cox)
