Cadets from SouthWest Edgecombe High School, N.C., Air Force Junior ROTC detachment NC-945 built a replica of the Wright Flyer in December 2008 that spans the original dimensions of 18 feet by 40 feet. The cadets were inspired by a Curriculum in Action trip to the Wright Brothers' memorial in Kitty Hawk, N.C., and used more than 500 feet of pine and 420 feet of muslin in addition to numerous other materials.
