The City of Montgomery announced the commissioning of the USS
The City of Montgomery announced the commissioning of the USS Montgomery (LCS 8), an Independence-class littoral combat ship of the United States Navy to be named for the city. The ship was launched from Austal USA's shipyards in Mobile, Alabama in August 2014, and recently completed its sea trials. The ship will be commissioned in September 2016. Air University commander Lt. Gen. Steven Kwast, participated in the announcement activities, and highlighted the partnerships, cooperation and spirit of innovation that exist between Montgomery and the military community.
