Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jeanette E. Fernando holds a handful of sand taken from her trip to Iwo Jima, at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 1, 2017. Fernando and other Marines in her squadron revisited the battlegrounds at which Fernando's grandfather, a Navajo Code Talker, fought during World War II.
