Wake Island
Equipment from World War II stands silent sentry along the coast of Wake Island, Feb. 3, 2018. Marines on the island repelled a Japanese landing force that tried to take the island in the days after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The Japanese returned with overwhelming numbers and took the island. DoD photo by Christianne M. Witten
