Texas Tech University unveiled a commemorative plaque honoring 1993 graduate Maj. Troy ‘Trojan’ Gilbert during its centennial celebration, Nov. 17, 2023. Gilbert was an F-16 pilot and lost his life in 2006 during a strafing run against enemy positions during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Air Force ROTC Detachment 820 at the university also dedicated a heritage room in honor of Gilbert. He commissioned from Air Force Officer Training School, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, in 1995. The school renamed its headquarters building Gilbert Hall during a dedication ceremony in 2009. (U.S. Air Force photo by Kendall Jones)
