Indonesia: DoD, USAID, and UN staff attend Tsunami Remembrance Event
U.S. Air Force Brig Gen Carla Riner, Air National Guard advisor to the Pacific Air Forces Director of Air and Cyberspace Operations, tours the new exhibit honoring U.S. support in disaster relief with the Acting Governor of Aceh Province and the USAID-Jakarta Mission Director at the Aceh Tsunami Museum opening ceremony in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, Nov. 10, 2024. The Indonesian Government requested international disaster relief within 24 hours of the tsunami hitting Banda Aceh. U.S. Indo-Pacific Command responded immediately by initiating Operation Unified Assistance. The operation last over 3 months and saved thousands of lives. The U.S.-Indonesian comprehensive strategic partnership continues to grow today. With over 220 collaborative events annually, the U.S. remains committed to supporting Indonesia and all partnered countries, in military and humanitarian efforts with the goal of ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific.
