The Enlisted Professional Military Education Instructor Course (EPMEIC) strives to produce enlisted Airmen who can both teach and lead effectively in and out of the classroom. The curriculum is designed to heighten students’ appreciation for and understanding of classroom fundamentals, technical skills associated with EPME classrooms, and the typical day-to-day performance expected of Professional Enlisted Educators. 

Program Description. This course is designed for instructors teaching in all professional military education schools and is intended to train platform instructors to educate the next wave of Air Force leaders by leveraging formal instruction. During this course, students will be able to describe the fundamental concepts about the Instructional Design process, demonstrate classroom management concepts that facilitate learning, implement EPME assessment tools to evaluate learner achievement, and implement diverse instructional methodologies while incorporating personal experiences to deliver EPME lessons.

The course focuses on various teaching methods used in the EPME flight rooms such as Informal Lecture, Guided Discussion, Experiential learning activities, virtual classroom techniques, and Facilitation. The curriculum is divided into the following areas: 8T Course Foundation, Education Foundation, Classroom Management, Instructional Methodology, Curriculum/Instructional Design, Assessment and Evaluation, Human Performance and Fitness, and Performance Evaluation. Successful completion of the course earns three (3) CCAF semester hours.

In efforts to accomplish this, we have revamped our course to allow you to embrace the cognitive and emotional flexibility needed to be successful at your platform. In our environment, we face a false dichotomy when we believe we must choose between our personal and professional self. Our course allows you to be at your best by synthesizing your personal self and your professional role as an EPME Educator!

While on this journey, you will be afforded the opportunity to take a deeper reflection of self through various self-awareness strategies and tools. Moreover, you will also explore instructor skill sets such as presentation skills and competencies necessary to complete all roles and responsibilities associated with Airman Leadership School, Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Chief Leadership Academy and Development Advisors.

Technology

Our course uses the blended learning approach to present instruction. Teams is used through our training and for your virtual performance evaluation, please adhere to the following guidelines prior to arrival:

1. Provide an Air University (AU) .edu or civilian email address (.mil will not work). Your invitation link to the course will be sent to the email address you provide.

2. Do not bring Chromebooks to the course. Our classrooms are not compatible with any Chromebook system.  

3. Download the desktop application "Work or School" Teams to your computer, laptop, or tablet/cell phone. Use the course invitation to connect your email as an Air University Guest.

4. Cameras, microphones, and Wi-Fi are required during virtual teaching and briefing sessions unless stated otherwise by the flight and instructor. If you use a government computer for training, ensure the camera, microphone, and Wi-Fi features are active prior to departing your base. 

 

Arrival Assistance:
Students are responsible for arranging travel from the airport to lodging. Listed are three taxi companies that have base access and are open 24/7. They can be scheduled prior to leaving home station.

  • Groome Transportation Shuttle - 334-821-3399 (Reservations are required for direct route from Atlanta Airport to/from Maxwell-Gunter)
  • Checker-Deluxe Cab Company - 334-538-8178
  • On Time Taxi - 334-505-1189

If using an Uber or Lyft, confirm the driver has base access. The front gate is approximately one mile from lodging. 

If driving, put the following into your GPS, Waze, or Apple Maps.  After arriving at the main gate, follow signs to lodging.  Please note the Maxwell-Gunter Annex back gate (Dalraida Gate) is CLOSED until further notice.

Pre-Class Preparations:
Information contained within this section is designed to assist students with preparation for attendance to EPMEIC.

- Students do NOT need to call the University Inn for lodging reservations. Rooms will be blocked off for EPMEIC students so disregard any Non-Availability that DTS tries to provide.
  - In DTS: skip the lodging booking and select:
    - A: Reason - Code 7 - Military Lodging
    - B: Selection - Skip Lodging Booking
    - C: Add Comments - Lodging Already Booked
 All students will check-in at the University Inn lodging front desk for room assignment. 

Day of Education (DOE) 1:
Class begins at 0800 in Building 832, the Barnes Center (next to the Shoppette), it is recommended to arrive 15 mins early.
 - EPMEIC Cadre will be available to assist the morning of DOE 1.

Uniform Requirements

Report on DOE 1 to Building 832 (Barnes Center) in your OCP/Flight Suit/MCCUU/Type IIIs/Utilities or service equivalent.  Wear the Uniform of the Day (UOD) as directed by the WARNORD Additionally, students are required to wear the service dress uniform (or service Class A equivalent) for graduation and a minimum of one additional academic day. Students can expect to wear the short or long sleeve blues (service class B equivalent uniform) during the course and are reminded to bring all items that meet dress and appearance requirements (badges/devices/ribbons required by regulation or those additionally mandated by their current command or duty position). We highly recommend students bring 2x sets of business casual attire to assist in presenting a professional appearance for offsite and experiential lessons.

Physical Fitness uniforms will be required for Mock PT tests and weekly PT events.

Do we need to bring blues/service dress and official PT gear?

YES!!  Service Dress (Class A’s) will be worn for graduation while the Class B, long sleeve, or short sleeve variation, will be worn at least one other day during the course. Fitness uniforms will also be required for the mock fitness assessment and organized fitness sessions.

Do we need to bring "Business Casual" attire?  What is “Business Casual” attire?

Yes!! Business casual attire is a balance between traditional business wear and a more relaxed style suitable for an office environment. When adhering to military grooming standards and regulations, consider the following guidelines:

Authorized Attire:

  • Dress pants, slacks, khakis, and chinos
  • Knee-length skirts and dresses
  • Polos or button-up shirts
  • Blouses
  • Sweaters and cardigans
  • Blazers and sport coats
  • Shoes: loafers, oxfords, boots, pumps, and fashion sneakers

Not Authorized:

  • T-shirts, shorts, workout gear, flip-flops, or Crocs
  • Revealing clothing (low-cut tops, short skirts)
  • Ill-fitting or inappropriate attire

Exceptions for EPMEIC:

  • Jeans are allowed if not torn or tattered
  • Athletic shoes (lace-less slip-ons, high tops) are acceptable

Remember, the goal of business casual is to maintain a polished and professional appearance while remaining comfortable and approachable.

EPME Fitness Assessment and Profiles.

EPME Fitness Assessments (Mock PT tests) will be conducted during the first 5 days of class IAW Barnes Center guidance. Alternative components are available. 422/469s should be sent to Student Administration as well as hand carried to the course. 

Will we have holidays off?

Yes, EPMEIC observes all Federal holidays and AETC family days.

Are there facilities for laundry in lodging?

Yes, there is a laundry room in each building.  The machines are free, but students will need to bring/purchase detergent and dryer sheets.

What will the flights look like?

Flights typically consist of 12 students from various AFSCs, ANG, AFRC, Sister Services and International Partners.

Is there a DFAC and what type of payments do they take?

Yes, the Aviation Inn is next to Lodging. They accept both cash and card.

Are we allowed to travel on the weekends? How far?

Yes, students are allowed to travel on the weekends. There are no travel limitations, however the student will be held responsible if not present for duty after the weekend.

I’m flying and my unit won’t authorize a rental car. Will I be able to walk to where I need to go?

University Inn rooms for EPMEIC are located within a block of the Barnes Center. The DFAC and all other services on Gunter Annex (Gym, Shoppette, Commissary, Bowling Alley) are less than 1 mile from your lodging location.

I’m working DTS but I have not received my LOA. Can you help?

No, EPMEIC does not issue LOAs. That is an AETC TDY-to-School function. They can be reached at (210) 652-2971 or tdy.school@us.af.mil.  LOAs should be cross-org'd within a few days after the completed training RIP has been submitted.

Do we book lodging through DTS?

No, EPMEIC reserves ALL student rooms. Because of this, students who attempt to book their own lodging are notified there is no availability. Any non-availability letter issued by DTS or front desk should be ignored.
